The officer, who was not identified, was seen with his right arm on the suspect's chest while he lit the cigar with his free hand. At one point, the suspect, lying on his back, attempted to free his hands, but the officer kept the man down with his one free hand as he was lighting the cigar. As it nears a year since the repairman and others began living in the home, Boyette said she’s still been unable to move back in due to its conditions. The Mesquite Police Department said that Boyette’s issue has been resolved, and it was “handled appropriately and professionally, with due regard for existing state law.” Boyette appeared in front of the committee to detail her story with the squatters.
