Horrifying moment when tree crashes through roof and lands on 9-month-old’s cot caught on baby monitor

A baby monitor has captured the terrifying moment a tree crashed through the roof of a couple’s children’s bedroom and onto the cot where their baby was sleeping.

A huge loud crash could be heard as the tree smashed the Avalon Beach home in Sydney’s Northern Beaches during storms last week.

At first, mom Keisha Ferguson could not see her nine-month-old baby Ned under the debris.

“I just clearly remember pulling a tile after tile and then I couldn’t get to him and I was yelling,” she said, speaking to 7News about the terrifying 40 seconds before they freed him.

The family say it’s a miracle they all walked out with only a few scratches. 7News

They had also just put their two-year-old child to sleep in the same room.

Dad Matt Ferguson said it was a “miracle” that they all “walked out with a couple of scratches”.

Pictures obtained by the program showed one side of the cot completely split.

It was a stark contrast to footage from the baby monitor moments before the tree crashed through the roof.

Ned appeared peacefully asleep in the corner of the room while Keisha and Matt stood over their older child, putting her to bed.

Sydneysiders have been lashed by wild weather this month, with rain lingering for weeks.

On Saturday, NSW responded to 243 incidents in the 24 hours to 3pm as heavy rainfall sparked flash flooding across Illawarra, the South Coast and Sydney.

On Monday, after Sydney recorded 13 straight days with 3mm of rainfall or more, Weatherzone finally said the end was in sight to “the relentless soaking”.

The forecast for Wednesday is sunny, while Thursday and Friday are partly cloudy with only a 10 and 20 per cent chance of rain, respectively.

However, possible showers return on Saturday.
